How to measure the height of a tall tree

A list of large oaks, in order of girth (circumference) measured at chest height. A popular way of comparing tree sizes is to use a points system, based on girth, height and spread, such that: POINTS=GIRTH (in inches) + HEIGHT (in feet) + ¼ SPREAD (in feet) More details of the measurements involved can be found at: Champion Trees and clicking on "Measure a Tree".
